Dear Station Manager
I am involved a an amazing project whith a young african boy, Sam Kaase(from Piet Retief) who wrote a song called Insurgence – To change South Africa!
We met him when he came to our studio to record a demo CD. When I heard his song I offered to record and produce it professionally and take on the project of getting the song to ALL OF SA, FREE OF CHARGE.(an Instruction I got through my Faith in God)
We have involved Me Zille, de Lille, Mr Holomisa and Buthelezi in this song . They hereby illustrated that (without any political intention) that they also care about our country and its people.
I include Sam’s own words for writing this song:
This is Sam’s own explanation why he wrote the song (not edited)
When i wrote the song insurgence i wanted it to be a voice for the people in and out of our country who cannot be heard in their horrific day to day circumstances, people who experience endless tragedies and have no one to turn to. The song is also a tool to help those who abuse others, whether physically or emotionally because they are different or less powerful than they are to realise the bigger picture of the damage they are causing and how it not only affects the victims but also the whole country. The main and overall inspiration of the song is the unstable political situation of this country and how it affects the citezens and the country at large.
We are planning to distribute the song over the internet and cellphones (at no cost) as we want it to be available for all South Africans.
If you are interested in the story in more detail or willing to assist us in getting this message out, please feel free to contact me at any time.
Kind regards

Important notice about upcoming elections: please forward to all South Africans working abroad
The SA Constitutional Court will decide next month whether registered South Africans working legitimately abroad should be afforded the right to vote. This decision has been directed to the CC as a result of the High Court ruling that the current situation is unconstitutional. If the Constitutional Court does confirm the Pretoria High Court ruling, it means that the electoral act will have to be amended, allowing registered SA’s working abroad the right to vote.
It is important that should you wish to exercise your right to vote, that you give notice within 15 days after the proclamation of the election to the electoral commission (Thursday, 12th February). This 15 day period expires on the 27th February, but the Constitutional Court will only make a ruling in March.
However, there is an argument that the 15 days will be dated from the day of the High Court judgment (Thursday, 5th), so if you do want to vote, it would be best to give notice this week (before Feb 20) at your local SA Embassy.
Dear Team, We are a licensed teleport and MPEG4 service provider. We can offer DSTV Supersports on legitimate IPTV and MPEG4 systems. We are already streaming to many expats in China through our services.
I will be in Shanghai later this month so will most lilely visit bar there.

Overseas voting for South Africans:
The Constitutional Court ruled on 12 March that South African citizens outside of South Africa who are registered to vote may vote. You must send your completed VEC 10 form to the IEC at vec10@elections.org.za by Friday 27 March.
Check out http://www.elections.org.za for all necessary information!
Thanks and see you at the polls!

Hi there
There are a group of South African students studying medicine in Jinan city of the Shandong Province. I happened to stumble upon the website and found it so heart-warming to find your group embracing our “proudly South African Spirit” How can we get more information about the gatherings so that we can plan a visit to Shanghai to include it.

Ashneil, Ilze and Anne, you’ve all been added to our mailing list.
hi to all. do you have this same kind of RSA group in Beijing? we are now here for a time as a family and need to blend also with other South Africans and even a few Namibians. please let us know. biltong and regte boeretroos will be welcome
I’m a South African living in Puxi, Shanghai.
I like the Shanghai Living section of this website. It’s very useful. Thanks. It’s good to be able to find wine from home. And now I always use CTRIP to book flights and hotels in China. I haven’t been to any of the recommended churches, but I should.
I am quite conscious about the food I eat, so I have recently been using a delivery service called Mealbay (http://www.mealbay.com.cn) that delivers food from Godly (a vegetarian restaurant) and Organic Kitchen Shanghai (a restaurant that uses organic ingredients to prepare food – http://www.organickitchenshanghai.com). I order online from Mealbay’s website, and they deliver to my home or office in about 30 minutes. It’s really good. So I would like to recommend that site to other South African’s living in Shanghai. It’s really useful.
Lekkerrrr!
Hi, my wife and i recently moved to Shanghai from cape town. We would like to join the club. Could we have contact details please.
Hallo there,
I am not living in Shanghai, but close, Nanjing. We are having a international day in March at the Nanjing International School. Does any one have any tips or ideas where I can find material eg. on tourism or even the World cup as well as south African products to display in a Expo style. The day is like a big show for the different countries here.
Appreciate any info from anyone.
Thank you
Sonia

Hi
My family and I are moving to Shanghai in May 2010. Please can you give me an indication as to where most SA expats live? We are looking to move to the Pudong area but there are so many compounds that it’s quite a daunting task looking. I have a 2 year old that I would like to involve with other children in his age group. Please can you help me, or put me in contact with some other South Africans who have made the move from SA to Shanghai?
Many thanks
Janet

I’m a radio and club dj from Cape Town and have been living in Bangkok for almost 2 years now.

Besides being a club dj all over the world for more than 11 years.
To make a Long story short, i am looking to get involved in some sort of hosting or musical (DJ-ing)capacity and would love for someone to pass on any information regarding that to me PLEASE.
Also, if someone knows anything or has any contact with anyone regarding the ‘WORLD EXPO’ in Shanghai later on this year, i would love to get involved there too… Just not sure how to go about it.

This might be an unusual request as I am living in SA. My son is working in Pingyang and I have recently been unable to contact him by phone, which I was able to do. Does anyone know if there has been a change in mobile numbers or area codes. When I phone I get a chinese lady saying something? The operator here cannot help. Any suggestions? Its very frustrating. I was told to contact consulate in Shanghai…the consulate here were not very helpful.
Hi there!
Just stumbled upon this website, was wondering when the next ladies lunch/mixer is scheduled to be. Have been living in shanghai for almost a year, would love to meet some fellow south africans!

Hi
Meropa is doing some work for the SA Rooibos Council and is launching a welcome campaign, which basically involves getting business, civic leaders, tourism bodies and other opnion leaders to support a great South African brand. You don’t really have to do much in terms of your customer offering. It’s really about inculcating the offer of rooibos as a gesture of hospitality as part of your corporate culture – something which you probably do already.
The letter below explains this all a little better as well as the feedback you can provide.
We’d love Shosholoza Shanghai to get behind this campaign and with your permission use any feedback in the ongoing publicity.
Kind regards

Dear All
On behalf of the SA Rooibos Council, we are calling for your support for the Welcome Campaign. This initiative, which we are rolling out with the help of business and civic leaders in all walks of life, requires very little effort and promises warm rewards.
We would like you to offer a welcoming cup of rooibos tea to visitors in a show of traditional South African warmth and hospitality. Rooibos is the tea produced only in South Africa, predominantly in the Cedarberg district of the Western Cape, and has a distinctive reddish colour, sweetish flavour and numerous health-giving properties.
This simple act is an ideal way to welcome people travelling to South Africa for sporting, business, educational and other events. It’s quick, cheap, easy, and uniquely South African, while appealing to all tastes and cultures. We hope that not only travel and tourism operations, but also schools, service organisations, business and other bodies will support this initiative.
The aim is to embed this campaign long-term as an integral way of doing local business, much in the same way that visitors in India are traditionally welcomed by a glass of sweet chai tea. Organisations representing South Africa abroad, such as trade missions, embassies and social clubs, are also being called on to brew up a traditional cup of tea.
Do let us know if we have your support for the Welcome Campaign. We’d also appreciate any feedback, such as photographs of VIPs being welcomed with a steaming cup of rooibos, or a heart-warming story. All correspondence can be addressed to rooibos@meropa.co.za.
The Rooibos Council is a non-profit organisation established five years ago to represent producers, processors, manufacturers, marketers and exporters. Please see our website http://www.sarooibos.co.za, the official site for South African rooibos, for more information on the Council and the tea.
Yours sincerely
Martin Bergh

My name is Willemien and I work for Two Dogs books. We publish a book called Should I Stay or Should I Go?, a collection of chapters by South African and ex-South African writers that combines their subjective opinions and stories to provide a broad overview of one of our country’s defining contemporary dilemmas: the question of living in or leaving South Africa. Every South African who has lived overseas, or considered it, will be able to read this book, and it sure to spark interesting debates. I would like to talk to the editor of the website about possibly featuring this book on your site, and would appreciate it if you could put me in touch with him or her.
Thank you

Hi
I’m looking to make contact with other South Africans based in Shanghai. I have been based in Beijing since Jan 2009.
